Billstrasse

Billstrasse shows 28 color photographs, taken in the eponymous street in Hamburg's Rothenburgsort district between the years 2022 and 2024. Most of the photographs are located in the street's notorious section between Ausschläger Billdeich and Grossmannstrasse. The area features substandard warehouses, office buildings, scrap yards, and garden plots. It is home to an eclectic mix of import- and export businesses, retail commerce, catering, and lodging opportunities. After years characterized by a laissez-faire attitude, and following a large fire in Spring 2023, Hamburg city administration established a "task force" to "clean up and reindustrialize" the street.

Anhalt took the photographs with a 50 years old SLR camera and color negative film. While the subject matter is architecture and the style of the images is documentary, editing and sequencing of the photographs adds a subjective layer to their publication in book form.
